Covid 19 Closure Extended until April 19th.

Dear Parents/Guardians

We hope that you and your family, friends and neighbours are all keeping well.

We are aware that this can be a stressful time for families and the whole community. We also understand that every family and home situation is different and we all have varying challenges to contend with at this time.

As most of you are aware, we are trying to provide some guidance in relation to activities that can be done at home on the school’s facebook page and website.  The children went home with 2 weeks work on 12th March. However, it is important to note that this is suggested work, activities and ideas only. We in no way wish to add to the strain that anyone may be under so please do as much or as little as fits in with your family schedule.

If your child gets through an hour to two hours a day, depending on their age and your family circumstances, that would be more than enough. If they don’t manage any of the work that’s fine also. If your child is finding a particular task difficult just leave it and see if there is a different task where they can experience success. Your children are always learning so now might be the time to play draughts, chess or other board games. Make jigsaws, play cards or complete crossword puzzles.

What children need right now is to feel comforted and loved, to feel like it’s all going to be okay and that might mean that  we play outside and go on walks, while keeping social distancing! Bake treats and paint pictures. Play board games and watch movies. Do a science experiment together or find virtual field trips of the zoo. Start a book and read together as a family. Snuggle under warm blankets and do nothing.

Don’t worry too much about schoolwork at the moment.  Every single child is in the same situation and they will be okay. If I was to leave you with one final thought for now it would be to encourage your child to read daily.

From the staff and Board of Management of Killeenduff National School

Yours sincerely,
